WEEE Regulations - Latest Update The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive has been transposed into the UK WEEE Regulations. These Regulations came into force with full effect from 1 July 2007. Producers and their Compliance Schemes are now responsible (in most cases) for organising and financing the environmentally sound disposal of their products at end-of-life. The UK Lighting industry is fully committed to meeting it's obligations under these Regulations, which are aimed at environmental improvement by reducing the amount of WEEE waste that goes to landfill and instead recycling and recovering as much of the materials as possible for re-use. The industry has therefore taken a pro-active role and set up two specialist Compliance Schemes to help achieve the objectives of the legislation: Visit http://www.lumicomrecycling.co.uk to get more information To recycle gas discharge lamps contact - http://www.recolight.co.uk For more details on the requirements of the legislation and how the schemes work, please click on the website links above. |
